Toyota plant ab der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2010 den Prius auch in den USA zu produzieren. Nach dem Toyota Camry Hybrid wäre der Prius das zweite Hybridmodell, das in den USA gefertigt wird. Mit dieser Entscheidung folgt die Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) der Devise, Fahrzeuge dort zu produzieren, wo sie gekauft werden.

Toyota wird ab 2009 als neues Modell in seine Produktpalette aufnehmen. Zu sehen ist der Venza als Weltpremiere auf der Auto Show in Detroit (Publikumstage: 19. bis 27.Januar 2008). Gebaut werden soll das Fahrzeug im amerikanischen Werk Georgetown. Den Besuchern in Detroit dürfte der Venza bekannt vorkommen, sind doch Ähnlichkeiten mit der Studie "FT-SX" vorhanden, die 2005 vorgestellt wurde.

Toyota hat sein erstes russisches Werk in Betrieb genommen und in St. Petersburg mit der Produktion des Camry begonnen. 600 Beschäftigte sollen in diesem Jahr zunächst 20 000 Fahrzeuge produzieren. Die Kapazität ist auf 50 000 Fahrzeuge ausgelegt.

Toyota hat im Subaru-Werk im US-Bundesstaat Indiana die Produktion des neuen Camry aufgenommen. Seitdem sich Toyota im vergangenen Jahr mit einem Anteil von 8,7 Prozent als Hauptaktionär bei Subaru-Mutter Fuji-Heavy Industries eingekauft hat, suchen beide Unternehmen nach Synergien. Die Kooperation war im März 2006 vereinbart worden.

Toyota hat heute sein drittes Werk in Thailand eingeweiht. Der Standort Ban Pho 65 Kilometer südöstlich von Bangkok entfernt produziert bereits seit Januar dieses Jahres den Pick Up Hilux nicht für den thailändischen Markt, sondern auch für 90 weitere Exportmärkte. Das Werk hat eine Kapazität von 100 000 Fahrzeugen pro Jahr.

Der Toyota Camry hat am Rande der Detroit Motorshow den Preis als "Car of the Year" von der Fachzeitschrift "Motortrend" erhalten. Die meistverkaufte Limousine auf dem US-Markt rollt seit einigen Monaten auch als Hybridvariante zu den Kunden, fast 50 000 Einheiten pro Jahr, ein Zehntel der Gesamtproduktion, sollen künftig mit dem besonders umweltfreundlichen Antrieb ausgestattet sein.

Toyota hat am 12. Oktober die Serienproduktion des neuen Camry Hybrid im Werk Georgetown/Kentucky und baut damit das Angebot an emissionsarmen Fahrzeugen in Nordamerika weiter aus. Wie das Unternehmen heute mitteilte, sollen pro Jahr etwa 48 000 Limousinen mit Hybridantrieb aus den Werkshallen rollen. Bei einer Gesamtkapazität des Montagewerks von rund 500 000 Einheiten sollen pro Jahr etwa ein Zehntel der Limousinen mit Hybridantrieb entstehen.

Tokyo - TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today the outline of its motorsports activities for 2006, which positions FIA Formula One World Championship (F1), NASCAR, Super GT and Formula Nippon as the main pillars of its motorsports competition, while including measures to further support the foundations of motorsports.
As detailed in the outline (available in full below), for its fifth year of F1 competition, Toyota rolls out the TF106 race car, developed in response to changes in vehicle regulations, such as those concerning engine displacement. Continuing from last year, drivers Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli are aiming for Toyota's first F1 victory.
In NASCAR, Toyota is continuing its support for the teams driving its U.S.-market Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which debuted in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2004 and garnered nine victories in 2005. Toyota has also decided to begin competing in the Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series in 2007 with the Toyota Camry.
Along with continuing to support teams participating in Super GT, Toyota will begin supplying engines to Formula Nippon, a premier formula racing series in Japan.
To further support the foundations of motorsports, Toyota will continue to promote its Toyota Young Drivers Program (TDP), which cultivates young race drivers who hope to perform on the world stage by entering them in the GP2 series and F3 Euro series, which are geared as stepping-stones to F1. Toyota will also continue sponsoring one-make races in Japan, including the ESSO Formula Toyota Series, which is an entry-level formula category, and the Netz Cup races (Vitz Street-legal Series and Altezza Series).
The Motor Sports Division of the Higashifuji Technical Center is currently in charge of Toyota's overall motorsports activities, while Toyota Technocraft Co., Ltd./TRD in Japan, TRD, U.S.A. Inc. (TRD-USA) in the U.S. and Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) in Europe serve as local hubs for regional activities.
